cary:

Set within a 1950s neighborhood in North Central Austin, the Cary Residence is conceived as a measured response to its gently sloping site and established neighborhood context. The home draws from the surrounding fabric through disciplined geometry, restrained detailing, and a material palette rooted in masonry and warm wood.

Arrival is shaped as a deliberate sequence. A punctuated brick façade establishes a sense of rhythm and enclosure, guiding movement toward a planted courtyard. Here, the composition softens - anchored by a red balau wood wall that frames the entry and introduces a warmer, more tactile scale before crossing the threshold.

The plan is organized as a C-shaped figure that opens toward a central pool, establishing the home’s primary spatial anchor. Program is distributed along this perimeter, with the primary suite and a detached pool casita defining the edges. This arrangement reinforces a continuous dialogue between interior space and landscape, allowing daily life to extend outward.

Inside, the material language becomes more expressive. Warm wood tones, layered color, and pattern are composed to create a series of spaces that feel both grounded and dynamic. Material collaborations with Rock Paper Build and Clay Imports are integrated throughout, including a tile installed in the upstairs bath and a art nouveau inspired wallpaper in the game room that engages a sculptural light fixture from Blue Print Lighting as part of a larger visual composition.

The Cary Residence balances clarity and richness - pairing a controlled architectural framework with moments of material depth and experimentation.
